Year-End Performance Reviews Begin April 1

This spring, Penn staff and their managers will participate in the year-end performance review process to build on fall 2023’s mid-year performance reviews in Workday.

On April 1, you should have received a Workday notification to log in to Workday and start your self-evaluation, for the review period of May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024. After you submit your self-evaluation, your manager will complete the manager evaluation.

June 7 is the University’s deadline for all staff reviews to be completed. Your school or center may have its own intermediate due dates for different steps in the process.

  • A complete performance review includes acknowledgements by you and your manager that you have discussed the review content.
  • Both staff and managers are required to give proficiency ratings for competencies and an overall performance rating.

You have 10 weeks to work with your manager to complete all performance review tasks by June 7

There are five steps in the performance review process:

  1. Employee Self-evaluation in Workday
  2. Manager Evaluations in Workday
  3. Meeting between staff and manager (outside Workday)
  4. Employee Acknowledgement in Workday
  5. Manager Acknowledgement in Workday

Help during the process:

The Workday Performance Management Guide tip sheets give step-by-step instructions, an overview of the process, video resources, and links to Penn Human Resources policies and self-service guidance.

If you have any questions, please contact your manager, your local HR team, or the Penn Employee Solution Center at solutioncenter@upenn.edu or 215-898-7372.

As always, performance reviews are an opportunity for reflection, alignment with your own manager, school, or center on future expectations, and conversations about professional development.
